7 Actions You Can Take Every Day to Build Your Self-Confidence

7 Actions You Can Take Every Day to Build Your Self-Confidence Have you ever wanted to achieve something so bad but were not sure whether you could, despite knowing you had the skills or knowledge required?Have you ever wanted to grab an opportunity but were afraid that it was challenging and you could end up embarrassed if you failed? These are some typical characteristics of low self-confidence.Low self-confidence is a big hindrance to your life’s progress as it makes it extremely difficult for you to take risksâ€"even the small ones. Without taking risks, you can never move forward.Furthermore, any work which has fewer risks generally involves more physical effort but less pay.For example, a laborer working as a loader has a job which is less risky and his mistakes can easily be corrected by those above him. His pay is also one of the lowest in the organization despite his use of a lot of physical strength.A CEO on the other hand gets paid a lot and has a highly risky job. If he makes a bad decision and it’s implemented, huge losses will b e incurred, jobs lost and many families affected, including his.Jobs like those of the CEO or department heads do not need degrees only. For better performance in the day-to-day work, you need self-confidence too. This article will teach you what self-confidence is, what lowers it, then guide you through the steps of building it.There are examples which show you how you can implement what is discussed. You will end up standing out among your peers with virtually no situation being able to stop you.WHAT IS SELF-CONFIDENCE?Self-Confidence is defined as a feeling of trust in ones abilities, qualities, and judgment. Being self-confident does not mean you are perfect in any way or have the right combination of abilities and skills to achieve your goals. It is simply about knowing what you can do by yourself, what you need help with and what you cannot do.With self-confidence, you will set a goal, start working on it and eventually achieve it.When challenges come up, you will be bold enoug h to either tackle them or seek help without feeling embarrassed about it.When you carefully look at the definition of self-confidence given above, you will notice the word ‘trust’. This means that you have an assurance in yourself. When you trust your abilities, you are not afraid of putting them to work. On the contrary, you seek opportunities to use them. It will be your joy to utilize your abilities for the satisfaction you get when you attain your goals. The absence of this assurance causes fear. You become afraid that things may not go as well as you may want. If for example you want to start a business and are not sure about your abilities, you’ll be afraid of making losses, not being able to sustain yourself and joining the statistics of many startups failing within a year.Low self-confidence makes you afraid of pursuing your dreams. You have a dream and picture in your mind how you will be successful with its achievement. You visualize how you will make it happen but wh en the time comes for the actual work, you simply shy away from it.At times in an effort to encourage yourself, you postpone the dream to first build a certain required skill.Sadly though, you rarely get to finish building this ‘required skill.’ Several years later, you realize in retrospect that you could be in a better situation had you worked on that dream. What you need for success is self-confidence, not perfect planning.Since we are looking at ways of building self-confidence, it will be good to quickly see what you should avoid so that you don’t cancel what you achieve.WHAT LOWERS SELF-CONFIDENCE?There are four main things which when you do them, your levels of self-confidence reduce rapidly. It is therefore important that you steer clear of any of the below things:Negative thinkingThis is the surest way of undoing any progress you make.Thoughts like how you have never been able to progress past a specific level of education or business growth, should not be allowed to r un in your mind. For example, instead of thinking how you have been stuck in one level for a very long time, think of what kind of help you need so as to improve. If your mind can’t come up with any ideas, get some time and talk about it with someone who has had success in that area. Some questions you may ask are:How long did it take you to grow past this level? How much resources and of which kind did you use? What steps did you take to grow? What was the process of growth like? The answers you get will help you realize that although you easily see other people’s success, you are never aware of the challenges they have faced. This contributes to why you think others are just succeeding and not failing.Your mind is very powerful and it takes the cue from you on what to focus on.When you direct it to focus on negative things, it does exactly that and delivers accordingly. The short video below explains this quite well. Overly-critical peopleThese are the kind of people who simply neve r see much good in you. They are always pointing out to you and others in your presence, the mistakes you have made.Their intentions are never to help but belittle or embarrass you. They may even go to the extent of stating that you will never amount to anything.Unfortunately, most of such people are influential in one way or another e.g. bully at school, unkind supervisor, harsh boss etc.Since most of such comments are made in public, they may end up hurting you a lot as a result of the embarrassment you experience. Such people seek to build their profiles by intimidating others and so should be avoided.Excessive focus on failures and weaknessesEveryone fails at something and it happens more often than you may know. This includes the most successful and admirable people you know. From being quarreled by the boss, getting stressed up by the kids to going through heart breaks, weaknesses manifest and failures happen. What will enable you continue in your success path is having the right mindset towards failures and weaknesses. Failures help you learn important lessons in life while weaknesses keep you humble and open to receiving assistance. While it’s important to know your weaknesses, focusing on them makes you see nothing but those weaknesses. This gives birth to a situation where you only know and remember your weaknesses and not your strengths. To stop or avoid this habit, keep in mind some wins you have had and the strengths which you exhibited as a result. When a failure happens, take a look at the situation and understand why you did not win. Do this only once to learn and don’t dwell on it much. From there, remind yourself of your favorite wins and strengths and get the courage and strength to proceed. This is how you will be able to rise again no matter how many times you fall.Self-neglectThis is disregarding or ignoring your personal needs or wants. Apart from the basic needs of every human, you should also make yourself look and feel good. Buy nice c lothes for yourself, properly groom yourself, make time for resting and enjoy your hobbies. Not doing these things means you do not love yourself and that is a sign that you don’t value yourself.Considering that the people around you will be expecting you to do things for them, you will wear yourself out benefiting them while having nothing to show for the energy used. Also, very few people will be keen enough to notice when you are getting over-stretched and offer help.People expect you to take care of yourself and so you should not be too available for them, otherwise you will get exploited. You can manage this situation by allocating time for yourself and sticking to it. This acts like a boundary and people will respect it.7 ACTIONS YOU CAN PERFORM EVERY DAY TO BUILD YOUR SELF-CONFIDENCE“Youll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.” John C. Maxwell. With the above background on self-confiden ce, let’s now look at how you can build it up and be on your way to a more successful and happier life. There are 7 things which if you remember and do on a daily basis, you will see your self-confidence levels soar. Moreover, continuing with them will form a good habit which will translate to a lifestyle of high self-confidence.1. Be YourselfSelf-confidence can only be built from the point of knowing who you are. When you know yourself, you cannot believe any lie said about you. For example, if you know you are wise, it is easy to dismiss the person who calls you a fool. You may not even need to respond to him.Contrastingly, when you lack this knowledge, you become susceptible to lies. There are four things which you need to do in order to know yourself. These are:Know your personalityAlso referred to as temperament, this describes your inclinations and tendencies. It is important to know these so you can recognize how past mistakes happened. The best way to do this is by taking tim e alone and doing a self-analysis.There is a popular personality test based on the theories of Carl Jung and Isabel Briggs Myers which does a good job in identifying personality types. After answering the questions in the test, you will know your personality type, suitable career choices and some famous people who are of the same type as you. You can find the test here.Know your strengthsThese are the things you easily excel in. They may vary from academic to social. Take note of them and look at the joy you get when manifesting them. Some questions you may ask yourself so as to identify your strengths are:What was my favorite subject in school and what did I love about it?Which tasks do I love doing and can spend a lot of time in?Which sporting activity do I love most and why? What do I do differently from others? What have I been complimented on by others? What have I excelled in the past?Know your weaknessesWeaknesses do not mean you cannot achieve something because you have them.Ever yone, including your mentor, has weaknesses. What you need to do is learn how to spot situations which make you vulnerable to your weaknesses then either avoid or seek help about them.A careful look at your weaknesses will show you that some of them can be improved on.Some questions to help you discover your weaknesses are:What do I struggle most with? What would I rather not do because I least enjoy it?What have I been criticized for most often? What activities do I always seek assistance for?Affirm yourselfSelf-confidence, just like everything else, grows when in a conducive environment. Your strengths are indicators of the truth that you have the most important raw materials needed to achieve your own goals.Remind yourself of this truth with some sense of pride.Write your strengths somewhere you will always see them e.g. the first page of your diary or save them in your phone.Remember that your strengths are the evidence you can make your dreams come true. The only other thing you n eed is the desire to succeed, which you already haveâ€"otherwise you would not be reading this article.2. Have a Winning AttitudeThis is the belief that you are going to win in spite of any existing challenges. If the odds are against you, then you come up with a way of rising above them. Now that you know your strengths and you are focusing on them, nothing can stop you. You will develop a winning attitude by doing the below:Believe that you can achieve your goalsYou are the one to set your goals. If you ask someone to help you set goals for yourself, make sure you are comfortable with them, even though they should have a challenging aspect to them. They should not be too big as to intimidate you, especially as you start out in building your self-confidence.They should be within what your strengths can achieve as this is the reason you believe you can achieve them.Break your goals into smaller piecesRegardless of the size of your goals, it is best to break them down. This makes them more manageable and small enough to be accomplished easily. When the task is easy to accomplish, you get excited at the thought of finishing it and you’re motivated to work on it.When breaking down your goals, ensure they are distinct pieces such that you can work on them individually. Remember to put them in an order which will show your progress as you tackle them piece by piece. For example, if you are good at baking and want to commercialize this talent within 6 months, the smaller pieces of the goal can be:Research on the products already in the market (types available, strength of the brands, consumption trends, customer preferences etc)Research on requirements (machinery, licensing, number of staff, their skills etc)Find the best location for the bakery (security, proximity to customers etc)Hire the necessary staffAcquire the bakery premises and machineryStart productionThe idea is to make the processes small enough to be doable within short periods of time. This maintains the motivation that comes with seeing that the tasks are small thus easy to work on.Plan how to achieve your goalsAs small as the pieces are, planning is still key. The best way is to plan ahead i.e. the previous night or first thing in the morning before embarking on the activities of the day. Estimate time requirements for each piece of the task and allocate accordingly.Swing into actionWith the plan in place, it’s now time for action. Set your mind on the first step of the task with a clear vision of the finish line. As soon as you finish it, congratulate yourself and get ready to tackle the next step. A common threat is to dilly-dally around the first step.Resist this temptation by just starting to act as per your plan. Do not start thinking it over again. Starting a new project always has uncertainties and you may feel not adequately prepared. This is the most common challenge whenever you want to make changes to your life.Take the first step and you will see yourself making progress.Celebrate your victoriesWhenever you manage to complete a task, appreciate your efforts and recognize that this proves you can do more. This achievement brings excitement from within, giving you the motivation to tackle the next task. Part of this celebration can be rewarding yourself. You can do this in different ways depending on what you love e.g. cooking your favorite meal, watching a movie, visiting a friend etc.  â€œNothing builds self-esteem and self-confidence like accomplishment.” Thomas Carlyle3. Dont Compare Yourself to AnyoneWhile you can get inspiration from others, do not compare yourself to them. This is why you have a specific combination of strengths and weaknesses. To avoid comparing yourself to others, take note of the below:No two people are the sameStrengths and weaknesses are determined by both genes and environment. These differences are so prominent that even twins end up with major differences as they grow up. Things like preferences, individual fe ars, sibling rivalry etc contribute in forming strengths and weaknesses. We are different for a reasonYou cannot achieve success entirely on your own.Once you are on your journey to success, you will realize that though doing what you do best, greater success demands that you team up with others who have strengths which can cover for your weaknesses. This will help you accomplish more. This is how teams tend to enjoy greater success rates. For this reason, people have to be different. The below video shows how one person easily gets tired when doing everything alone but as soon as a team is set up, things flow better. No two environments are the sameHaving purposed to succeed, realize that the environment someone else is currently in is not necessarily the same as yours. That means that there may be something else working in his favor which you are not aware of.Therefore do not seek to be like him but understand your environment then maximize what you have.Always believe fully in your abilities and those of your team members.4. Associate with People Who Build You UpYou are building your self-confidence and so cannot afford to hang around people who continually focus on your weaknesses.Whether in an organization or at a social level with a friend, stay away from such people. As you look for new associations, the below two things will help you spot and avoid wrong company.Domineering peopleThese are people who use force to control you. They simply want you to do what they want done with no consideration of your feelings, workload or any other engagements. If you are in such a situation, you should change things quickly. If in an organization and you cannot face the person doing this, try engaging the HR’s office.Manipulative peopleThese manipulative people also want to control you but through different means. They seek to influence you through underhanded tactics like abuse and deception. A common characteristic to look out for is the use of blame shifting.Apart from this, if you feel uncomfortable with any aspect of an association, take a step back and analyze what has been happening. Always be ready to take suitable action for your own good.Do not fall victim to the thought that you can help such people change their attitudes because that is usually one of the effects of the manipulation on an unsuspecting victim. If you find yourself thinking along such lines, it is time to cut off links. This is a sign you are already a victim, although you may not have known it yet.5. Exercise Your BodyPhysical exercise is helpful not only for your muscles but also for your brain. Below are three ways in which physical exercises help you build self-confidence.Improved brain responseStudies have shown that exercises, especially aerobics, improve memory and learning abilities. This is very important because your brain is at the center of everything to do with self-confidence. It is in your brain that you debate the lies and truths about who you are, thus affecting your self-confidence levels depending on how that debate goes.Better looksThe most outwardly-visible sign of physical exercises is a more muscular physique.Whether male or female, exercises help trim belly fat, tone the muscles and increase muscle size. These provide a healthy dose of self-confidence. The best part of this is that no one can contend against it, neither do you need to shout about itâ€"it is open for all to see. There is nothing as good as seeing yourself in the nice shape you always wanted to have or the muscles you always dreamed of.Improved overall healthGenerally, exercises are encouraged because they give you better health. Better health improves self-confidence in various ways. For example, you feel more confident when you know that the rainy season does not cause you to suffer colds and flu, rendering you inactive throughout the season.Staying healthy also gives you the assurance that you will live longer, stay stronger and therefore, have more time to enjoy the success you have built.6. Exercise Your TalentsYour talents are the ones which give you your strengths. If for example among your strengths is a good voice, then you could be talented in singing; if one of your strengths is drawing well, then you could be an artist. You can exercise your talents in the following ways.Go commercialCommercializing your talents is a great way to build your self-confidence.Using your talents ensures that the struggles are less than for others because you are doing what you are good at. Earning some money in the process not only serves as a reward but a confirmation that what you have is valuable and there are people willing to pay to experience it.When going commercial, improving your talents becomes important otherwise the competition will be a serious challenge for you.Do voluntary workVoluntary work gives you great satisfaction since you see your talents improving the lives of others. You will be pleased with yourself when you put a smile o n someone’s face.Voluntary work also comes with a lot of appreciation.7. Face Your FearsThe fears you have are responsible for your low self-confidence. When a situation comes up and you are required to do something you have not done before, just check inside you for signs that you can take the challenge. If you have been doing the above 6 things regularly, you will by now have believed in yourself enough to want to take challenges. Facing your fears means:You will become unstoppableOnce you overcome one fear, you become courageous to fight some more. With more conquering, you become quite impervious to defeat.Just as habits form after practice, the winning attitude which you have been practicing now becomes a natural part of you. At this point, you have built your self-confidence to the point that nothing can stand in your way.You will become more attractiveThis is because you have achieved what many have not.People also tend to be attracted to those who are successful. Your succ ess now becomes a source of inspiration to others. Many will seek advice from you on how they can fulfill their dreams. As you become better, ensure you give a lot of counsel as that helps you get the fulfillment of using your achievements to benefit others. You will receive recognitions and promotionsLooking around you, you have definitely realized that the people who get recognized and promoted are those most talented or productive.Well, congratulations! Your latest victories have just ushered you into this category of people. Promotions here do not only refer to higher office positions but also to appointments to take leadership roles in the society.Anywhere people need change and success, they will always look to those who have success defining their lives. With your name suggested, either by yourself or others (you can also seek promotions), you are setting the stage for more successes.CONCLUSIONSelf-confidence is all about what you believe regarding yourself. Stop having negativ e thoughts and beliefs about yourself and start focusing on what you are good at.When you do this, you will start noticing some other positive qualities you have though never detected before. As a summary, here are the things you need to do every day to build your self-confidence. They are in a list form so you can easily remember them.Be yourselfHave a winning attitudeDon’t compare yourself to anyoneAssociate with people who build you upExercise your bodyExercise your talentsFace your fears

Life Lessons from Hult How to be the Richest Person in America

One of the best things about the Boston campus is that it’s so close to New York City. However, this can also be frustrating – the long hours of the MBA program often leave little time to visit. I had my first chance last December. Flashback to December 2013†¦ I’m riding the first bus I found available, and feel very grateful that I’ll be able spend the four days off before finals in New York City. I spent all of last night preparing a final presentation, so I’ve been asleep for most of the trip. When I wake up we are already in the city, but at least half an hour away from the terminal, thanks to traffic. This means I’m half an hour away from setting foot in the Big Apple. It’s no secret that some of the greatest success stories are linked to this city. I find one of them especially inspiring, and I know it thanks to one of my first lessons at Hult. The story comes back to me as we edge our way in the city: It was the second lesson of our Individual Skills Course, in September. Professor Sheen Levine was conducting the session. He is a graduate from The Wharton School, a world-class academic and an expert in management theory. I felt very good that Hult would offer us a teacher of this caliber. I expected to get valuable insights from him that day. But I confess I did not expect the lesson I was about to receive to be so powerful, influential and inspiring. Professor Levine introduced us to Mr. John Jacob Astor. He was an American businessman, originally from Germany. The son of a butcher, he arrived in the U.S. in 1784, not long after it became an independent country. After establishing a small fur goods shop in New York City, expanding his business to China and bringing the profits back to New York to buy real estate, he became the first multi-millionaire in the United States. His fortune, expressed in today’s dollars, was more than a hundred billion dollars. After reading a business case and writing an essay about Astor, it was time for the class to analyze the root causes of his success. Participation was being graded, so hands were flying up the air all the time. Here is some of what was discussed: â€Å"Astor was successful because he started a business in New York when the markets were still developing – said one student.† Professor Levine, with a smile: â€Å"So this case is not relevant today then? It only applies to the 1800s?† â€Å"I think a big part of it was that Astor knew the President of the United States and that helped his business† – said another classmate. Professor Levine: â€Å"But why was he important enough to be acquainted with the President? I’d love to be friends with the President. â€Å"I call him all the time. He never calls me back, so what should I do?† My classmates laughed. We continued suggesting explanations: his relations, his business skill, his wise decision to withdraw from China just before the fur business in that country collapsed, and many others. No one seemed to get to the conclusions he was looking for. Yet, our professor still encouraged us. â€Å"Come on, we could have the formula of success right here. Do you think there is one?† – he asked. After hearing no answers he said: â€Å"Actually, there is. Otherwise, you should ask for you tuition back.† Finally, he gave us what he considered the keys of success, all derived from the case. It was a set of few but very powerful guidelines, easy to remember and perfectly applicable today. The most important one: be constantly on the lookout for new opportunities. I won’t reveal the rest here, because I don’t want to ruin the experience for you. But his last words about the case impressed me deeply: â€Å"There are many fascinating things about the Astor case. He was an immigrant. He didn’t have high education. He was the son of a butcher, no connections. His English was not even that good. Still, it proves that following these guidelines you’ll increase your odds of becoming the richest man (or woman) in America.† Talk about a motivational speech. Back to my bus ride†¦ After the bus arrives, I exit the 42nd Street Terminal. New York is in full Christmas attire, the nearby stores are bustling with shoppers, and the bright lights of Times Square greet me from above. This city is truly a place of beauty, dreams and opportunity. I have an appointment with a friend in 30 minutes. I take the subway and ride down the Lexington Avenue Line. Next, I get off at the Astor Place station. Before leaving, I see plaques of beavers located on the walls. I also see a beautiful young lady staring at them. I smile and wonder if I can use a tip Professor Levine gave us that day. â€Å"They say it’s hard to impress a New Yorker. But I’ll tell you something about those plaques. There aren’t any beavers in the original NYC area. They only exist in the plaques that honor Astor, who made his fortune in the beaver-pelt trade. If you tell this to a New Yorker, you’ll certainly impress her.† What I learned at Hult that day, my future fellow alumni, is a story that made history. And it might sound pretentious, but I think most Hult students can relate to the Astor case in many ways. Most of us are also immigrants, and many of us didn’t have spectacular connections or graduate education before starting our programs. But thanks to Hult, apart from the graduate education, we are getting very valuable lessons in life and business that can help us overcome those initial disadvantages and, maybe, make history someday. John Jacob Astor succeeded. Why can’t we? After all, unlike him, we have a head start: the advantage of being students at Hult International Business School. Any of our campuses are perfect places to find and seize the opportunities that can make us successful. Edgardo Macias is a Hult Global Ambassador. Unemployment through United States - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 5 Words: 1469 Downloads: 8 Date added: 2019/06/10 Category Society Essay Level High school Tags: Unemployment Essay Did you like this example? Social Problem: Unemployment Throughout the United States Presentation Working a strong nine to five occupation, adding to society, and paying your bills are a couple of qualities Americans endeavor to live by. None of these anyway can be practiced if a man is jobless. The joblessness rate in Hawaii is as of now at 4.6% (DoL, 2014), overall, the United States rate waits at 6.7% (Taborda, 2014). Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Unemployment through United States" essay for you Create order Joblessness has had its social issue pulls set up for a long time now. The central government perceived this and all things considered started following joblessness appropriate around the 1950s. By utilizing the Conflict Theory point of view one can see that joblessness helps to social disparity, joblessness builds assessments to subsidize rehabilitative projects, it limits monetary development, lastly diminishes societal assurance, along these lines meeting the criteria of a social issue (Korgen and Furst, 2012). Despite the fact that joblessness has soar all through the US, which expands sorrow and vagrancy, society has executed professional projects to fight this social issue, elective strategies, for example, state supported employment position programs have been consolidated to fight the joblessness issue. Issue Scope Joblessness as a social issue has extended crosswise over America and impacts both huge and little economies all through. The joblessness rate in the territory of Hawaii has kept up its present dimension of 4.6%, which compares to simply over 30K individuals. In the United States all in all the issue has seen both high points and low points. The most elevated yearly joblessness rate was recorded in 1982 at 9.71% because of the most exceedingly terrible retreat since the gloom (PBS, 2013). The joblessness rate (as of Feb 2014) was at 7%. The U.S. saw its most reduced joblessness rate amid the Eisenhower organization counting in a 2.93% for 1953 (Manuel, 2014) and since has seen a noteworthy drop to 6.7% in December of 2013 (Burnett, 2014). Occupant specialists have broke down this social issue and have built up ends. Sociology specialists say the joblessness issue all through the United States varies dependent on development. As the country develops we gather more youth matured specialists. In 2012 youth joblessness enrolled a rate of 17.1%. Potential apparatuses to checking this issue are making occupations and joining apprenticeships (Sarachan, 2013). The apprenticeships enable the more youthful age of laborers to put into and test different employments. While youth joblessness represents a segment of this issue; the absence of employment creation is the most essential issue (Sarachan, 2013). Advancement of new flourishing organizations and reviving a considerable lot of the United States manufacturing plants would help check joblessness as well as. By making apprenticeships and occupations for both Americas childhood and prepared specialists a methodologically stable methodology is practiced. This methodology anyway does not battle the many negative reactions to joblessness to a great extent v agrancy and discouragement. Issue Consequences So as to keep up a house and the bills related with that family some sort of budgetary steadiness is required. Joblessness specifically influences the expansion or abatement of the vagrancy over the United States. Insights demonstrate higher joblessness rates in Hawaii added to an expansion in the vagrancy seen on the island of Oahu. Somewhere in the range of 2008 and 2009 the quantity of jobless expanded by 60%, this expansion added to the dramatically increased home abandonments in Hawaii (Steimetz, 2011). Because of the mind-boggling expense of living in Hawaii a significant number of the vagrants on the island of Oahu really keep up all day work. So with an effectively high vagrancy rate because of typical cost for basic items the joblessness factor significantly enhances this. Shockingly expanded times of joblessness can likewise prompt despondency. Singular effects of joblessness can cause huge mental pain frequently prompting extreme and potentially deadly melancholy. Sadness is a psychological issue characterized as a state of general enthusiastic discouragement and withdrawal (Collins, 2009). Individuals that are jobless are compelled to depend on outside help from family, city or state administrations. While not generally the situation, this searched out help may bring the shame of achievement. Research proposes being jobless pairs a mans shot of a noteworthy burdensome scene (Landau, 2012). Both of these outcomes of joblessness profoundly impact society. Society thusly has reacted after some time with techniques or projects to fight joblessness. Social orders Response Successfully beating joblessness is a continuous (potentially ceaseless) process. One strategy society has set up to beat joblessness has been professional preparing. State-Federal supported professional preparing furnishes jobless nationals with fundamental aptitudes required all through the network. This is ordinarily a win-win circumstance. The national is allowed the chance to acquire required assets, while the network is picking up a talented individual from society. Hawaii professional restoration program comprises of a five stage process, each progression helps in occupation arrangement. This state worked program helped just shy of six thousand individuals in 2012 (Hawaii gov, 2013). Notwithstanding formal government and state approaches networks have established less formal projects because of joblessness. Some less formal reactions to joblessness are businesses marginally diminishing increases in salary or retaining misfortunes, oil plants raising oil cost. By decreasing salary increases in a lessening economy business can clutch experienced individuals while looking after productivity. Managers in littler towns have additionally actually retained misfortunes to continue bigger quantities of representatives. At last, by raising oil costs organizations increment their net revenue and conceivably limit the development of populace inside the network. A little populace implies less employments required to fill. Exchange answers for joblessness have been instituted in Washington State. Elective Solutions In Washington State they have looked towards a substitute strategy to address their joblessness issue. The WorkSource program is a joint endeavor between associations that are committed to tending to Washington States business needs. Notwithstanding business, the program can likewise offer managers help with preparing existing laborers to redesign their abilities (WWCC, ND). While its anything but an adolescent explicit program, a significant number of the young populace utilize this program to discover work amid the mid year months while school is out of session. The late spring months are popularity for work escalated occupations (which are youth benevolent) in huge numbers of the farming corps all through Washington State. This transitory work obviously has the capability of getting to be perpetual, which can adequately address this social issue. One of the objectives of WorkSource isnt just to give business yet more significantly open doors for enduring vocations. This program as referenced is generally used to utilize youth or minors amid the late spring months. These minors have the chance to encounter distinctive occupations, which enables them to limit their profession decisions. While working with WorkSource offshoots they are additionally ready to got profitable preparing in many hands on callings. Defeats to this program are the look seasons and the state financing. While this program is offered all year, a large portion of the organizations are searching for brief full time representatives. The late spring months are is the main time most of the candidates can profit by WorkSource. Financing for WorkSource administrations originates from government awards, state and neighborhood assets (WWCC, ND). These assets tangle limit the number and length of positions accessible. Starting late financing has not affected the achievement of this program. These defeats in way, shape or frame exceed the advantages Washington States childhood (and grown-ups) collect from this program. End Joblessness has been looked out for and combat since the mid 1900s. In the wake of inquiring about and perusing this paper one could create musings and reflections that incorporate despondency and acknowledgment. While joblessness isnt wished on anybody it is in all likelihood a social issue with no closure. Hopefully, the joblessness rate can be overseen in a way that doesnt adversely affect financial aspects. Arrangements and projects set up help with reducing this appalling situation, called joblessness. These approaches and projects simply keep the monster under control. With a populace as large as United States (and developing inconceivably) it is extremely implausible to feel that joblessness will ever NOT be a social issue. With the average cost for basic items and working a business regularly expanding, managers are compelled to eliminate back or kill positions so as to accomplish more with less. This obviously an endless loop and a case of how one social issue covers with nu merous others. This record examined numerous profitable focuses and contacted a couple of regions of joblessness as a social issue. Recognizing a social issue and reacting to address the issue makes a superior domain to live in. The United States has seen both high and low joblessness rates since its commencement. Waiting joblessness has been has been connected to cause ruins, for example, vagrancy and sorrow. Because of this professional open doors have been offered to help those influenced. At long last, elective strategies, for example, Washington States WorkSource where referenced. Society will investigate and go up against joblessness and other social issues that pelage our lifestyle.

Women s Literature Oppression And The Role Of A Woman

Evan Rhodes Survey of World Literature December 1, 2014 Hartmann Women in Literature: Oppression and the Role of a Woman In early literature, men dominated the writers’ circuit. As literature began, it was used as an easily digestible way to promote social norms and moral code. In these texts, the role of women changes vastly depending on the culture, although there is a common theme: women exist to belong to a man. Women were not only oppressed in life, but their struggle is weaved into all of these texts, where in hindsight we can read them and see how belittled women were. These stories, written by men, all seem to have the same theme that a woman’s only value lays in her loyalty to her husband. Women in these times did not have a chance to speak out or think for themselves because they were not allowed. I looked specifically at three women from three stories, across culturally different times and societies. I chose Sita, from the Ramayana, Penelope, from Homer’s Odyssey, and the Wife of Bath from the Canterbury Tales. Look ing at the qualities of these different women, they are essential pieces to the success of the â€Å"hero†, a sidekick, almost. It was interesting to me, that across these different cultures, I found a lot of similarities between them. In the Ramayana, we see the hero, Rama, and his wife, Sita. Sita is described as the â€Å"ideal woman†. Rama is banished into the wilderness, and like a good wife, Sita goes with him, no matter how he objects. Thirty Years War Battle of Rocroi

In early 1643, the Spanish launched an invasion of northern France with the goal of relieving pressure on Catalonia and Franche-Comtà ©. Led by General Francisco de Melo, the mixed army of Spanish and Imperial troops crossed the border from Flanders and moved through the Ardennes. Arriving at the fortified town of Rocroi, de Melo laid siege. In an effort to block the Spanish advance, the 21-year old Duc de dEnghien (later the Prince of Conde), moved north with 23,000 men. Receiving word that de Melo was at Rocroi, dEnghien moved to attack before the Spanish could be reinforced. Summary Approaching Rocroi, dEnghien was surprised to find that the roads to the town were not defended. Moving through a narrow defile flanked by woods and marsh, he deployed his army on a ridge overlooking the town with his infantry in the center and cavalry on the flanks. Seeing the French nearing, de Melo formed up his army in a similar fashion between the ridge and Rocroi. After camping overnight in their positions, the battle began early on the morning of May 19, 1643. Moving to strike the first blow, dEnghien advanced his infantry and the cavalry on his right. As the fighting began, the Spanish infantry, fighting in their traditional tercio (square) formations gained the upper hand. On the French left, the cavalry, despite dEnghiens orders to hold their position charged forward. Slowed by soft, marshy ground, the French cavalrys charge was defeated by the German cavalry of Grafen von Isenburg. Counterattacking, Isenburg was able to drive the French horsemen from the field and then moved to assault the French infantry. This strike was blunted by the French infantry reserve which moved forward to meet the Germans. While the battle was going poorly on the left and center, dEnghien was able to achieve success on the right. Pushing Jean de Gassions cavalry forward, with support from musketeers, dEnghien was able to rout the opposing Spanish cavalry. With the Spanish horsemen swept from the field, dEnghien wheeled Gassions cavalry around and had them strike the flank and rear of de Melos infantry. Charging into the ranks of German and Walloon infantry, Gassions men were able to force them to retreat. As Gassion was attacking, the infantry reserve was able to break Isenburgs assault, compelling him to retire. Having gained the upper hand, by 8:00 AM dEnghien was able to reduce de Melos army to its vaunted Spanish tercios. Surrounding the Spanish, dEnghien pummeled them with artillery and launched four cavalry charges but was unable to break their formation. Two hours later, dEnghien offered the remaining Spanish terms of surrender similar to those given to a besieged garrison. These were accepted and the Spanish were permitted to depart the field with their colors and weapons. Aftermath The Battle of Rocroi cost dEnghien around 4,000 dead and wounded. Spanish losses were much higher with 7,000 dead and wounded as well as 8,000 captured. The French victory at Rocroi marked the first time the Spanish had been defeated in a major land battle in nearly a century. Though they had failed to crack, the battle also marked the beginning of the end for the Spanish tercio as a favored fighting formation. After Rocroi and the Battle of the Dunes (1658), armies began shifting to more linear formations. Selected Sources: The French Phase of the Thirty Years WarFrance and the Thirty Years War

White Lion Animal Facts

White lions are part of the general classification of lions, Panthera leon. They are not albinos; they lack the tawny coloration due to a rare condition that results in reduced pigmentation. Because of their majestic appearance, they have been revered as sacred beings by tribes in southern Africa, but have also been hunted to extinction in the wild. They are now being reintroduced in protected areas by the Global White Lion Protection Trust. Fast Facts Scientific Name: Panthera leoCommon Names: White lionOrder: CarnivoraBasic Animal Group: MammaliaSize: Up to 10 feet long and 4 feet high for males and up to 6 feet long and 3.6 feet for femalesWeight: Up to 530 pounds for males and up to 400 pounds for femalesLife Span: 18 yearsDiet: Small birds, reptiles, hoofed mammalsHabitat: Savannah, woodland, desertPopulation: 100s in captivity and 13 in the wildConservation Status: VulnerableFun Fact: White lions are symbols of leadership and pride to local communities in the Timbavati region. Description White lions have a rare recessive trait that causes their white skin coloration. Unlike albino animals that lack pigmentation, white lions’ rare gene produces lighter pigmentation. Whereas albinos have pink or red coloration to their eyes and noses, white lions have blue or gold eyes, black features on their noses, â€Å"eye-liner,† and dark patches behind their ears. Male white lions may have white, blonde, or pale hair in their manes and on the ends of their tails. The white lion is a result of a genetic condition is known as leucism, a rarity where a recessive mutation in the gene causes the lion’s coat to vary from near-white to blonde. Boy_Anupong / Getty Images Habitat and Distribution The natural habitat of a white lion includes savannas, woodlands, and desert areas. They are indigenous to the Greater Timbavati region in southern Africa and are currently protected at the Central Kruger Park in South Africa. After being hunted to extinction in the wild, white lions were reintroduced in 2004. With the ban on trophy hunting in the Timbavati region and surrounding nature preserves, the first white cubs were born in the area in 2006. Kruger Park had its first occurrence of white lion cub births in 2014. Diet and Behavior White lions are carnivores, and they eat a variety of herbivorous animals. They hunt gazelles, zebras, buffaloes, wild hares, tortoises, and wildebeests. They have sharp teeth and claws that allow them to attack and kill their prey. They hunt by stalking their prey in packs, patiently waiting for the right time to strike. Lions typically kill their prey by strangulation and the pack consumes the carcass at the site of the kill. Reproduction and Offspring This is a two week old white lion cub. Tambako the Jaguar / Moment / Getty Images Like tawny lions, white lions reach sexual maturity between ages three and four. Most white lions are bred and born in captivity, usually in zoos. Those in captivity may mate on a yearly basis, while those in the wild mate about every two years. Lion cubs are born blind and rely on their mother for the first two years of life. A lioness usually gives birth to two to four cubs in a litter. In order for there to be a chance that some of the offspring will be white lions, the parents either need to be white lions or carry the rare white lion gene. Since the animal must bear two recessive alleles to exhibit the trait, there are three scenarios in which a white lion cub might be born. If both parents are tawny and carry the gene, there is a 25% chance the offspring will be a white cub; if one parent is a white lion and the other is tawny with the gene, there is a 50% chance the offspring will be a white cub; and if both parents are white lions, there is a 100% chance the offspring will be a white cub. Threats The biggest threat to white lions is uncontrolled trading and hunting of lions. Trophy hunting of dominant males of prides has reduced the gene pool, making white lion occurrences much more rare. Additionally, programs that wish to breed white lions for profit modify their genes. In 2006, two cubs were born in the Umbabat Nature Reserve and two more were born in the Timbavati Reserve. None of the cubs, including the tawny ones, survived due to the killing of the dominant male lions of both prides for trophies. Since 2008, 11 white lion cubs have been spotted in and around the reserves of Timbavati and Umbabat. Genetics   John McKeen / Moment / Getty Images White lions are leucistic, which means they have a rare gene that causes them to have less melanin and other pigments than non-leucistic animals. Melanin is a dark pigment found in skin, hair, fur, and eyes. In leucism, there is a total or partial lack of pigment producing cells known as melanocytes. The rare recessive gene responsible for leucism is a color inhibitor that causes the lion to lack darker pigmentation in some areas, but retain pigmentation in the eyes, nose, and ears. Due to their light skin, some have suggested that white lions are at a genetic disadvantage when compared to their tawny counterparts. Many people have argued that white lions are unable to camouflage themselves and hide from predators and marauding male lions in the wild. In 2012, PBS released a series called White Lions, which followed the survival of two female white lion cubs and the struggles they experienced. This series, as well as a 10-year scientific study on the topic, demonstrated just the opposite. In their natural habitat, white lions were able to camouflage themselves and were just as much of an apex predator as wild tawny lions. Cultural and Social Significance In countries like Kenya and Botswana, white lions are symbols of leadership, pride, and royalty, and are viewed as national assets. They are considered sacred to the local Sepedi and Tsonga communities of the Greater Timbavati region. Conservation Status Colin Langford / Getty Images Since white lions are included in the general classification for lions (Panthera leo), they are designated as vulnerable according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). In 2015, the conservation authority in South Africa proposed to down-list the conservation status of all lions to Least Concern. Doing so would put white lions at serious risk of becoming extinct in the wild once again. The Global White Lion Protection Trust is currently pushing for the classification to be moved to Endangered. Sources Bittel, Jason. Rare White Lion Cub Seen In South Africa.
